Here’s All You Need To Know About Flossing

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re unable to get a piece of food that’s stuck in your teeth? No matter how many times or how hard you try to remove it with your toothbrush?
Well that’s where flossing comes into the picture.
Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles in areas that cannot be easily accessed. Daily flossing keeps your teeth healthy and also establishes good oral hygiene as well.
So how do you go about flossing in the correct way? Here’s all you need to know.
Flossing isn’t exactly rocket science. All you need to follow are 3 simple steps:
-
Wrap 18” of floss around your middle fingers, leaving an inch or two
-
Gently follow the curves of your teeth
-
Clean beneath the gum line, but avoid the snapping of the floss on the gums
Floss generally comes in two types:
• Nylon (or multifilament) floss
• PTFE (monofilament) floss
The only difference between these two types of floss is that nylon floss is composed of many strands of nylon while PTFE only consists of a single filament. This means that nylon floss has a higher tendency to tear or shred, especially in narrow spaces. However, when used properly, both types of floss are excellent at removing plaque. As a dental hospital in Chennai, we recommend that you floss at least once a day to maintain great oral hygiene.
